Unit 4: Celebrations reflection
These studios were some of my very favorite things to create. I loved all the personal connections I was able to make along with celebrating all the things in my life that I love. I really enjoyed making the Graphic Design studio that focused on my relationship with my sisters. It was so much fun for me to go back and look through all the old pictures and choose ones that really captured our relationships. My sisters are my best friends and I really enjoyed getting to express that through a piece of art. As Anais Nin once said, "If you do not breather through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don't write, because our culture has no use for it." I think this can apply to art too. If a student has a hard time expressing themselves through writing then art is another form that they can express themselves through that would be useful to them.
think this studio would be one that my students would really be able to connect with because of the simplicity, yet power of it. It was one of the easier studios to create but it was also one that held the most meaning and impact on me. I will use this studio in my classroom in many ways. The studio does not have to reflect relationships. If we are studying anything in Social Studies then I can have the students create a magazine cover that would depict that event as if it were a present day issue.
I learned through these studios how to really integrate art in my classroom. Being able to create a piece of art that went along with a lesson that I created was really good experience for me. I loved being able to create something and then show how I would actually use that in my classroom. The piece I created to go along with my lesson was the artist choice one. My lesson was to have students research places they wanted to go and then draw the scenery of that place with some sight-seeing places included and then glue a picture of them on top of their picture. As Thomas Merton once said, "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." This is extremely important to my students because they can learn about themselves while also expressing themselves in a way that can make them be "lost" in their work.
